Luxor Temple


a large Ancient Egyptian temple complex

The temple was built in 1400 BCE during Egypt New Kingdom. On the East bank of the Nile River, in the south of Egypt Thebes  the World’s Largest Museum in Luxor city, contains one of the most tremendous temple standing. The Luxor Temple is a mark of Ancient Egyptian civilization, strikingly clossal monument in the heart of modern Luxor.

The Luxor Temple was built with sandstone from the Gebel el-Silsila area, which is located in South-Western Egypt This sandstone is referred to as Nubian sandstone

the Luxor Temple was the main place for one of the most important ancient Egyptian religious ceremonies, when the statues of the triad Thebes Amun, his wife Mut and their son Khonsu, were transported from their temples at Karnak in a large procession to the Luxor Temple so that they could visit the residing lord there Amun im Opet, which is the celebration Known as Opet an annual Ancient Egyptian Festival celebrated in Thebes.

the luxor temple was constructed by King  Amenhotep III and then was completed by King Tutankhamun and Horemheb, As for Ramses II (1279 – 1213 BC), he built many additions to the temple. In front of the corridor of the legends, he built a colonnaded hall and a large edifice consisting of two wings representing the entrance to the temple. In addition to a group of colossal statues, the edifice included a pair of obelisks 25 meters high, only one remains.

And a building with a cabin dating back to the reign of Queen Hatshepsut (1473-1458 BC)

 One of the inner rooms includes a group of scenes known as the scenes of the divine birth, where the story of the lineage of the queen is told to the Lord Amun himself.

there’s Luxor dromos, an avenue of human headed sphinxes which once connected the temples of Karnak and Luxor. serving as way stations for the barques of the gods during festival processions.

was dedicated to God Amun, who was associated with Mut and the Theban Triad.
